5/29/21 - I Wish You Wood: Cheryl Wood’s Pottery Sale - Individual Pots & Plants for Sale

Hello from Sherrelwood. No, I’m not Cheryl Wood. We’ll get to her soon enough. I’m Ian and I own these pots, purchased with the intent of selling; sold for low, low prices. So low, I give some away to fortunate visitors, like Cheryl and her sister Sheryl Wood, when the two purchase two items in tandem.

But I digress, for the rest of this post will be written from a fresh perspective, one of my favorite locals, Cheryl Wood.

Hi there. I'm the guest speaker for the week, Cheryl. Cheryl Wood. Some people have called me a chatty Catherine before. And here's the thing. I wish they would, to my face. I'd slap the taste out they mouth. That's what that's about.

But let me tell you about this young man's pots. They're delightful.

You'll find them in Sherrelwood. That's off Highway 36 and the Pecos exit in North Denver. He told me I can’t give you the address, so give him a call:

@ahouseofpots

It is important to note his hours. One time, I came on a Tuesday and he wasn’t there, because he’s not open Tuesdays. I felt a little silly for not checking whether he was open first before visiting.

He’s open on the weekends, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., but he also has hours on Wednesday and Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. I like to stop in after church on Sundays just to see what’s in store this week. I understand if this isn’t your style.

I will say though, I don't understand a lot of the things Ian says though. Like the low, low prices he's always yapping about. Why the two lows. What's makes a low, low? He's said, "You know, Cheryl, would you believe that there's lower than low prices? Because there is. It's those low, low prices. Lowest of the low."

And that was the first time I decided to give him 100 of my dollars. $100 got me a large $35 pothos, trailing, for $30, two 11.4-inch terracottas for $20, four 8-inch brown planters that look like baskets for $40, and what must have been ten 4-inch pots when there was only room for three in my budget. Then he added a $10 succulent and gave me a large plastic planter too I had my eye on. I couldn’t believe it.

All the pots I looked at were between $2 and $80 on the large, fancy ones. All the plants I was looking at seemed to be $10 to $40. Did I tell you there were some rather large cacti too? I want nothing to do with those pokeys, but they’re there, if you’re into cactus and those sort of things, and cost $200 more than I was willing to pay for one of the good ones.

You might have bad taste in your mouth just because everything isn’t free. Listen up, if you're gonna talk bad about this, about me, baby, little baby boi, then you don’t deserve any of the things he gives away for free:

Wooden pallets

Broken glazed pottery

Terracotta pieces

Red clay pots for children and grandchildren

He gave me a rescue plant

I asked about a cutting I found on a table, and he gifted it to me

And this thing called pottery jargon Ian told me about

==== Ian said feel free to stop reading ====

pot·ter·y jar·gon

1: the technical terminology or characteristic idiom of special entities, Ian Bramlett and A House of Pots

2: fancy words, obscure and often pretentious garden language, marked by circumlocutions and long sentences to enhance post searchability

3: confused unintelligible language that probably has something to do with pottery

4: he says: “why are you still reading this; for the love of all that is decent, stop reading”

==== I mean he told you it was jargon ====

What, come on Ian, do I have to really do this? I don’t even know what a lot of these things mean. What are pachypodium, maceta, gainey, macetas, xeriscape, euphorbia? I don’t know. I know he’s got a couch, more design than me, probably an iphone, and lots of exterior plant photos I look at on my tablet. There’s a surplus of items in his garden if you’re an outdoor baby who loves landscaping ceramics, potting, plants, and just the outdoors in general. It feels like a holiday when you get free with purchase pots for planting, especially when your husband is out fishing, racing, doing sports ball, or lifting weights or whatever he does, and you don’t have to worry about him saying anything about that big ol’ cactus you just got. Ok, this is hard Ian, I’m running out of ways to talk about trees, the extra container people pick up for their cacti, or leaving their laptop on their table and hiking up to this backyard in Sherrelwood. It’s better than being couch vegetables though, so leave your house, put your tires to the pavement, and treat this place like one big yard sale with decor, tree sized pots, and a deal or two so good you won’t need to barter. Yeah, he’s got house plants. Yeah, he’s got succulents. Yeah, he’s got green ceramic options a mile high above sea level, so plant yourself here if you value the trade of getting nice nursery things as cheap as as you're gonna find a planter for, for your deck in the 5280. Some cacti are in flower now, and you don’t have be climbing in nature to see them, or getting a bargain on a succulent, because deals grow on trees around here and there’s never a shortage of water. This is landscape land for the home gardener, whether they dig decorative Italian clay planters, yucca that bare no fruit, or just local gardening outside with pottery, desert flowers, and the perfect pot for a vegetable. Ok Ian that’s all I’m gonna write. I gotta go home now. Thank you for the opportunity.
